13" tires

Re: 13" tires

WoW... thanx... When I got the wheels, i was able to get one of the last sets of Sumitomo HTR 200s. They have more grip than I have guts. But at the shows this year I'll ask around and maybe I can sell the combo and move "up".

THANX!

Hey, I have a new 1098 head here, brand new, that I would like to have someone "breath" on. You're the guy, or do you specialize in 1275 stuff only? Actually I have two 12g295 heads, one that has been ported and another new one. The ported one should be magnifluxed before installation because of it's "unknown" origin.

Re: 13" tires

Hap,
As we discussed earlier regarding the 14" Classic 8s, my 13" wheels are still new in the box and I would love to go to 14"s. Had I known the issues with finding decent rubber for 13" I would not have ordered these wheels. Any help out there?
Thanks, Rut

Re: 13" tires

Sorry guys, sometimes I don't check here as much as I used to. Remember you can always call or email me, if I don't see a thread here, and respond.

Bill, yes I do 1098 stuff as well, and would be glad to help you on a 1098 head.

Rut, we can do a trade, but the 14x5.5 only come in the Retro 4 style, this set up on the Bugeye allows for 185/60-14 which is offered in some pretty sporty tires, here's David's car with his Dunlop Derezza DR1, or something like that, I think trevor has the same tires and wheels as well. You can look at the tire up close on Tire Rack's site, just search by size, it's a real sticky road tire. David and Trevor seem to be happy with the choice.

Re: 13" tires

Well, since you guys have been looking, I'm hoping for a little insight. I am needing a set of tires for my Dayton wire wheels (13"). My dream would be 165/75's first, then 155/80's and finally 165/70's. Am I stuck with only the 165/70's here in the states? Probably go with the Vredisteins unless someone has better ideas.

Kurt.

Re: 13" tires

I don't see anything in 165/75. Zippo Nada

look here (www.buynewtires.com).

Cooper, Vreiderstien, Uniroyal, and some Chinese stuff in your other size choices, including Sumitomo HTR4 in 165/70.

Re: 13" tires

Like I said, Bill, I'm dreaming. That aspect ratio would be just about perfect size IMHO. Been looking a bit myself and trying to make a decision between the latter two mentioned. I wore out a set of Dunlop's in 165/70's and liked the way they handled on the street but did'nt like the height. I'm afraid of the 155/80's for being squirley cause of the added height and narrower width. Decision--decision.

Kurt.

Re: 13" tires

Falken makes a whole series of 13" 80 profile tires, see my post on page 4 of this forums older messages.

NFI, just saw it in a magazine and thought it would be helpful. I do not know the cost nor the US availability.

Re: 13" tires

Thanks! I'll check them out but leaning towards Kumho's from Wally World. Cheap and dirty and convenient. Any reason to avoid them? (Other than Wally World!)

Kurt.

Re: 13" tires

Soo, how much experience is there out there with the Falkens?

Re: 13" tires

After I got my sprite sorted out I contacted a buddy that runs a tire store. He had no problem locating a 155-80R13 tire all season tread-As I just drive my car in the warmer months I have no complaints with the tires-I readily admit that I had never even heard of the brand before, but they seem to work nicely for my needs,$180 US for a set of 4-besides how much tire do you really need for a 1500 lb car with 65 horsepower? Ok, I am now ready for the incoming missles

Re: 13" tires

I ordered these: General Altimax RT

They should arrive at the installer tomorrow.

Just noticed the price went up since yesterday.

Re: 13" tires

After watching this thread, (and getting a bit of input from Nial...thanks!), for my daily driver I went with the Vredestein Quatrac 3 in 165/70R13 (I had been running 175/70R13 and had some rubbing in the back on my SWA)

I gave them a run on a local twisty, and can't complain about the grip on a nice, dry day. Certainly as good as I'll ever need. We'll see how well they do in rain and snow later...

Re: 13" tires

Bill, were the 175's rubbing on the inside or outside or both?

Re: 13" tires

Rick, only on the outside, but enough that I was eating up the sidewall over time. In fact, you could no longer tell the make of the tire: the sidewall had been wiped smooth.

In case you're wondering, here's a look at the back with the Quatrac in 165/70:

I do like the 'look' of the 175/70s better, but one must do what one must do. Sometimes, anyway.

...and yea, I know, my license is showing. Heck with it.

Living dangerously...

My car is such an amalgamation that saying the following should not cause anyone mental anguish...

I intend to use an aluminum baseball bat and roll up the inside lip of my rear fenders.

There, I said it. Everyone gasp and catch your breath.

Ok, moving on now.
