1098 exhaust options

Haha, my first '66 Sprite had its original muffler (I assume, it was the pinched corner style one like in Moss' catalog) and it was very loud. It'd also backfire on deceleration.

My current Sprite has a muffler that looks like the other Moss replacement part for the newer cars. It is also straight though, but the baffles are not saturated with gunk, so it is loud but tame. Sounds about the same as your typical 16 year old kid driving around a Honda civic with one of those chrome potato cannons on it.

My aftermarket exhaust that came with the car (new old stock) is also straight through. I don't think these cars ever really dealt with baffled exhausts, like we're used to on everything else.

Jim, I see from your second picture that you mounted it much like I did! One thing I would suggest is a second nut on that retaining bolt, as it may vibrate loose with just the one. I did and it is worth the peace of mind (if you have ever had one come off at speed like I did!!!)

Good thought Mike, Will add another bolt. Since I do not have a front brace for the exhaust pipe hanging off of the tranny that things moves around a lot. Need to tighten exhaust manifold bolts / pipe bolts fairly often to make sure they stay tight.

Gotta wait until Wed to get a new choke cable delivered since I broke my handle off when I started the car up yesterday. totally pis_sed me off. This will make 3 in 3 months.

What made me even madder was cranking up radio on a CD to see how new Miata Headrest Speakers sound at close to max volume levels only to have I'll assume power fuse pop on the radio. Now only an idiot like me would install the radio with a inline fuse holder, buried behind the console, that requires removal of the radio console to get to.

Well since I need to pull it to get access to the choke Oh well will be able to fix both with one effort. Oh crap will need to pull Drivers Seat to get enough room to stand on my head to change out the choke cable. I fix one thing and create 4 more jobs for myself. And mama says grass needs cutting.

No time to play with Bugsy. BE guys don't appreciate how much tougher it is to get behind a Spridget dash. Where are the MOWOG's when you need them. Those little mythical people with those small hands that assembled this car to begin with.

This video has an exhaust system that sounds very much like my old 66 did with it's straight exhaust.

My current Sprite is less responsive and more quiet, even though it's also a straight shot exhaust.
