100 rear bumpers?

The problem with letting a car sit for 20 years is that much of my "parts knowledge" is out of date. Back in the day, rear bumpers for 100's were not available and the reproductions sold by places like Moss and SC were very poor. Is that still the case? Can you get a decent reproduction 100 rear bumper in todays market?

Theres another thread on here about reprodution bumpers versus rechrome . I prefer to rework and rechrome . Just buying new isnt restoration to me .
I do have 1 NOS bumper overrider which I think is off a 100/4 if you are interested . perfect chrome .I got it in a job lot of parts and I cant use it .
 
I bought a rear bar for a 100 from Moss about ten yrs. ago that was made in England. Very nice and well plated. The 3000 bumpers are made in Taiwan and not too bad , maybe a little light but when's the last time you lifted one up? An original won't offer any more protection in a crash.
 
I agree that you should use original items if at all possible. It's the little things like proper shape, thickness, chrome quality etc that count.

I have an original rear bumper that I am trying to sell and I think it would be cost effective to buy this and re-chrome it versus purchasing a reproduction new. If you are interested send me a PM and I can give you the details or you can check it out on Ebay. Item number 221353514660

I agree that original is always better. It's my understanding that the problem with the repro 100 bumpers isn't so much with the metal or the chrome but the curve when viewed from above or below. The bumper should curve with the shroud, not be straight and closer to the shroud in the center. I've heard there may be a better repro now available out of the UK or Australia if you really want/need a repro. Good luck.

how does one differential a reproduction over rider from and an original? What are the differences between a 100-4. 100-6 and 3000 over rider? Pictures would help to visualize the differences. Thanks

I think these are overriders for 100, Flat top and no wave in the bumper;

The 3000 version has a W shape like the bumper itself

Most remakes have no flat in the top

So would you say the pics of the one I posted earlier is an original ?
 
For what I have found ... the chance is high

From the photos published here, I have see they are the same mounted on my MG TD 1952 that I have recently on hands
available from MOSS USA or UK -my opinion:_ good repro and good chrome work-
