Does any have a photos of a set of Lucas horns for a 100 that have been restored to the correct color and everything that they can post or e-mail me? Thanks d-valentino@msn.com

d valentino,
Mine were painted black all over, including the brass nut at the front and the id plate
So were mine, although the car was twenty-one (21) years old when I bought it thirty-one (31) years ago. I guess I'm just happy that they still work!

I'd be interested in seeing a picture of the correct color too, and I'm holding out hope that someone can provide the color code.

Austin Healey Club of Southern Ontario website has some pics on it of the horns/colors etc
I am not sure that this is light metallic beige it is nearest at light zinc or aluminium

andrea,
I acquired my 100 in 1970, the horns were black then, I also have a 1952 A70 for parts, pretty original, even found the original first aid kit in it! it too had the trumpet ali horns painted black, in retrospect any austin/mg I've ever had even going back to a morris 8 had the horns/starter/genny painted black, probably the cheapest paint back then and now to stop the metals corroding

These are the horns that I restored for my BN1. There was a little of what I assume was the original paint left. I found a very good match at Ace hardware called "Stainless Steel". I can't find the rattle can in my "organized" garage right now but it was probably Rustoleum or Krylon. I'll keep looking.
I know the brass acorn nuts should be painted but they looked too cool to paint. Remember, on a 100 you will be the last person to see those horns when you install them.

That's a great web site. That is how I'm painting mine with the Old English white over black. My question would be, would they have two-toned the classis like that or should it all have been painted the white?

That's my problem, I will know and it would bother me if they are not correct. What I did find is paint that I believe is a perfect match to the original color, it's Dupli-Color #DSGM457 Light Driftwood metallic. I found out some things while taking apart five horns. While the brass nut looks cool unpainted we know that it should be painted, but the rest of the nuts were left steel. I found no paint on them and they were all rusted, even on the backside of the bolt. Now if they were painted, there would have been no rust on the backside of the bolt and there would have been some type of evidence of paint. With the way the bolts corroded leads me to believe they were left steel and the two metals do not react well to each other causing them to almost fuse together.

This probably are the correct color for the HF1748 on a very good restoration of one 100M by FROREVERHEALEYS
https://www.foreverhealeys.com/M/Restoration/100Mrestoration5.html

in Italy we have one name for this color "Grigio topo metalizzato" that
translated can be "light metallic grey rat" or rat grey

Glad to see they painted the engine bay black, spot on for a white 100....

Sandy in scotland.
