[h=2]Two Healeys from prestigious Arthur Carter collection set to headline Bonhams end of year auction
[/h]
Bonhams have announced the sale of two significant Austin-Healeys from the esteemed collection of marque connoisseur, Arthur Carter.
The cars in question are an 1953 ex-Donald Healey Austin-Healey 100 Coupe, and ‘SMO 746’*- the ex-Works/John Gott 1959 Austin-Healey 3000 Rally Car.
All three cars will be sold at Bonhams year-end sale on December 6, at New Bond Street, London, among a number of other coveted classics.
The 1953 Austin-Healey 100 Coupe, registered ONX 113, was the much loved everyday car of Austin-Healey founder, Donald Healey, who used it extensively over a 10-year period following its production. Healey used it as a development mule for parts that would form part of the later 100S coupe, with the 2.7-litre four-cylinder engine, gearbox and disc brakes all tested and remained on ONX 113.
The 1959 Works Rally 3000 – ‘SMO 746’ – is the very last of a number of the Works Rally cars from Mr Carter’s collection. SMO 746 was one of three of the first series of 3000 MKI Works Rally cars produced that competed in the 1959 and 1960 International Rally seasons. It was raced by the likes of the Pat Moss (Sir Stirling’s sister), the first ever British Touring Car champion Jack Sears, and the late Erik Carlsson.
‘SMO 746’ and ‘ONX 113’ are the longest standing members of Carter’s collection, however he now feels the time is right for them to find a new home and be cherished by a new generation, ‘I have enjoyed owning these cars for many years and am not using them as much as I would like’, Carter confessed. ‘The time has now come for Bonhams to sell the cars and I am sure the new owners will enjoy them as much as I have.’
Elsewhere in collection and facing sale is a Connaught A-Type Racing Single-Seater, a car which boasts a long standing historic racing career in the hands of Ken Flint, Jack Horton and Dan Margulies in the ‘60s and ‘70s.
All three motor cars will be previewed in the Bonhams marquee at this weekend’s Goodwood Revival, taking place 12 September.
