I am renewing the attachment bolts on my clutch assembly. These are the ones that attach the clutch assy/pressure plate to the flywheel (6 bolts).

I know they are 5/16” UNF.

Is there anything special about them? Can I just use grade 8 bolts?

Thanks -

Make sure they are correct length. Never to long..
Best if they have a nonthreaded shank.

I got to thinking more on this and wanted to correct myself. Because the clutch plate is so thin you may not be able to find a short enough nonthreaded shank. Therefore a threaded shank is okay. Still grade 8.

That’s what I’m going to use. Clutch & trans should go in shortly.

You are right, difficult to find shanked ones, and the original GKN bolts were unshackled.

PS…. Documentation I found on line says the bolts are 5/16” UNF (24 pitch), but I found that my stock bolts are 5/16” UNC (18 pitch).
