Just another example, I get about 11" of lift with these:

But there is no practical limit of either weight or height - the box crib is used to move houses, support trains, even to lower the U-505 submarine into the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry:

I have a 4-post lift but for some jobs (the above was an engine removal done by lowering the engine and gearbox) the cribbing is the best way to go.

Is each 'box crib' secured together (nailed, screwed) as one solid block? Clearly, at least the top layer would have to be to prevent slippage.

12 x 10 is about right -- assembled with screws and in 2 parts that either stack or can be used separately.

Tried your idea and it works great! I added a slight modification that might be of interest. I added a 15 degree bevel on the two cross members that support the tires and spaced them 4 inches apart. Here's a photo...

Thanks for posting that mod. Looks like it will eliminate any chance of a roll off.
i'm going to cut mine 15 dg. also.
