A few days ago I bought some "old car" brochures on ebay. They arrived today with a note:

"So sorry there's a spot on the cover of one brochure. I didn't notice it when I posted the photos. I've enclosed a refund, and hope you're not too disappointed."

Wow - never expected a refund *before* I contacted the seller. Amazing. And the spot is barely noticeable. One of the few really responsible ebay sellers I've run in to.

When my son was in college a professor backed into my son's car, breaking the taillights.
I called the dealer to get a price on the new part and the professor immediately sent me a check. I happened to find the exact part at a local salvage yard for about a quarter the cost of the new one. After I installed it I sent the professor the difference. I did it because he took responsibility and sent me the check quickly.
