Sitting on hold with a big box store service department. Won't say which but it rhymes with Rome Heap Oh,

He: "how can I help you sir?"

Me: "I bought a hot water heater from you last year and it is malfunctioning."

He: "Oh, bring it back to the store for a refund."

Me: "It's a hot water heater."

He: "Oh, you can also do an online return."

Conversation went downhill from there.

:wall:

Maybe you could mail it in!

Had to do it:

actually, I appreciate it! thanks

See, there's your first problem: you bought a device to heat water that is already hot. Should have bought the cold water heater. :friendly_wink:

"Hot water heater" - that would be in our department of redundancy department. :smirk:

Useless unnecessary redundancy at that. And of course, we're in Canada - none of the water is already hot - some of it is even solid! BTW these new fangled units - have a light that shows they are on - the light checks the system and indicates the problem. three flashes and a three second pause means the pressure switch is not working. sheesh

If it were really new-fangled, it would talk to you in a Siri-like voice, or better yet send a text to your smart phone.

Mickey, that is funny!

So, quick follow up. after two or three calls to the manufacturer (manufacturer says it is installers problem installer says it is store's problem store says it is manufacturers problem - sound familiar?)

Anyways tech from another company comes yesterday (assigned by manufacturer) - At this point must say a tech came from original company a week or so ago. I was not home. SWMBO explained that the problem was intermittent. Tech didn't listen, treated SWMBO like an idiot - turned up the heat and left. Of course it malfunctioned the very next day (because of course she would lie about it not working!?)

Anyways, this tech listened, understood intermittent nature, replaced appropriate part and, so far so good.

So, today we get this attended to:

OK, not exactly that one but close

we will see

well, the heater started malfunctioning again - and got the runaround again.

this is what I heard

1. The tech from the heater company said (regarding the heater which was installed last July) "I'm sorry sir, your one year labour warranty has expired."

turns out the warranty begins on the date of manufacture. How do I know?

2. His supervisor said (and again I quote) "Sir if you could fax your invoice to us, then we can confirm you purchased it after the date of manufacture."

that is when I lost it.
