Airtex vs Facet fuel pump

I'm deciding between these two as I switch my bugeye from the mechanical pump/948 to an electric pump 1275.

The Airtex gets great reviews and is cheaper ($26 on Amazon vs $56 for the Facet).

However, the Airtex is LONG, while the Facet is a compact cube.

Anyone have a pic of the Airtex installed?

I don't see where there is room on the bulkhead in front of the gas tank for it along with a reasonable radius of entry hose.
 
I Don't know about Airtex, but I installed my Facet this way.

I mounted my Facet on the driver's side inner front wing. Picture doesn't show it, but I also had a rubber damping block under the pump to minimize the 'clicking sound" it can make.
By the way, I paid about $38 for my Facet cube pump from aircraftspruce.com

Looks like the fittings on the fuel pumps are for 5/16" ID tubing. My BE used 1/4 OD steel line.
What are people running?
 
A couple of things.

Fred....I have a 5-5.9 psi Airtex pump just taken of a working car....free for the cost of postage. Same deal for anyone else if Fred doesn't want it. It was mounted on the inner wheel well near the VIN plate.

On the Whitephrog the SU fuel pump is mounted in the rear. See photos below.

You could move the pump further toward center if needed to clear shock . Being that I wasn't using leavers, I kept it closer to the out side. I like to keep the pump close and below tank to enhance the siphon effect to the pump whereby causing less strain to pump.

Ray, thanks for the offer of the pump, but I already ordered one! BTW, the one I ordered (8016S) is rated at 2.5-4.5 psi.

The airtex pump is similar in size to an SU pump, but the inlet and outlet are on each end of the Airtex making it significantly longer.
I think I'll install it on the bulkhead with the fuel line exiting to the left, crossing to the drivers side just above the driveshaft. Then I'll run the fuel line down along the drivers side floor "rail".

The inlet and outlets of the Airtex are both 5/16 ID. My gas tank outlet nipple and SU carb inlet is 1/4 OD. My plan is to run 1/4 in copper (refrigerator) line from the tank to the pump on the bulkhead (using a short length of 1/4 ID hose to make the connection), then use a 1/4 to 5/16 barb splicer (sourced from Jegs) to run it in to the fuel pump. Then I'll carry 5/16 steel line under the car to the engine compartment. Then I'll run a short length of 5/16 ID hose, put in one of the clear plastic fuel filters with barbs for 1/4 and 5/16 and use it as a reducer to finally go into my SU carb inlet braided hose.

This was harder than I thought it would be...

Anybody see a problem with the fuel line crossing the tunnel above the driveshaft?

Should do the job for you. That's about the way I did my Airtex. Unfortunately I do not have any pictures I took of that installation. Bu sure and put some sort of clip to hold fuel line in place as it crosses over to the DS. You don't want it hanging down there to catch on the tranny as engine is installed. I think VB stocks the clips that hold the fuel line to the rails underneath.
 
Thanks Jim. I have my Copper-Nickel brake line held to the passenger floor rail with zip ties. Effective if not very elegant.

Any local sources for clips that would make a nice installation of the fuel line? It'll be 5/16 steel line for my set up.

And maybe I'll put a piece of rubber under the single hole mounting bracket of the fuel pump. I don't know if I like the outboard motor effect! I think the airtex is pretty quiet though, compared to the facet or carter.
 
Currently running 3 Airtex and I like them.

Fred, I believe the original clips for holding the steel fuel line are still available from one other usual suspect's at least.

On my floor rails there are two holes drilled, one near the front and one near the back. I put zip ties through these holes. Is this where the clips go? Or did a PO drill them?

BTW, I installed the fuel pump and lines today. I ended up using 5/16 steel brake line from Autozone. I used a 4 ft piece to connect from the tank nipple to the pump, and a 6 ft piece from the pump to the front of the car. I used their "polyarmour" product that has a nice coating on the lines which should prevent premature corrosion and rust.
I also ended up not needing the 1/4 to 5/16 barbed splicer. I was able to push the 5/16 OD steel line into the 1/4 ID rubber hose with a little grease.
 
Fred the stock clips go sideways through the little angle iron like rail's that run along the bottom of the car. One of the catalogs show's how I believe. No 582 925 in Moss.

don't forget that you can use some 90 degree fittings.
 
DSCN5190.jpgI have been told the pump should be mounted lower but this is where a PO had mounted one and the holes were there so I used them. This is a Facet from the Napa store. I can hear it at idle. I ran brake down one side of the rail and gas down the other side and zip tied together. I ran fuel along the frame rail and crossed over in front of the motor.
