Well, what is it? It's a compressor or vacuum pump of a type and could have been used for a hundred things. Been enough guesses don't you think. :popcorn: PJ

OkOk. I thought Basil was homing in on it.

It's a dental air compressor from about 1937. Same as regular small compressors but with a more elaborate air filter. Made by the Ritter Company - lots of interesting old catalogs etc on Google.

When I went to the dentist as a kid, he'd put his cigarette down on the edge of the counter and start drilling with a drill powered by an electric motor and an elaborate system of pulleys. He would have had a compressor like this just for that small air gun. No small dental vacuums in those days.

Ouch.

Thanks, Man, you're going to give me nightmares. 55 years later, I can still hear the sound of that motor spinning up the drill through those pulleys. No water passed through the drill head, either, so it got nice and hot with the smell of burnt tooth wafting through the air. And my guy was a miser with the novocaine, too. Only good thing was if you were a "good" boy (didn't scream too much) he'd let you pick an army man out of his box and give you a gift certificate for a sundae at the drug store (I think he was trying to drum up more business, the sadist).

I think I'm going to have a drink now.

Well.... unless someone can come up with a way to effectively juice a cat, all future development on my new energy drink for the southeast Asian market is indefinitely postponed.
 
It's the love child of a Ford and a Toyota. I'm sure I got this one nailed!
