What is it?

Very sorry to hear about your mother in law. I think that is a roller skate key from the old metal roller skates like I had as a kid.
 
My thoughts too.
Haven't seen one of them since the late 60's
Can't figure why she had it.
 
It definitely is a roller skate key. I had the very same key for my skates when I was a kid.
 
I knew what it was but never used one! Too hard to skate in a plowed field, plus there were no side walks on the farm, even the road was dirt! :highly_amused:

As that tune was airing I'd just received a shiny-new Honorable Discharge from the USAF and was pounding the pavement in downtown Pittsburgh, PA looking for a position in corporate America. Good times come to mind hearing it now.

EDIT: Funny aside: Mitsy's steel-wheel skates hang from their leather straps on a nail in the garage... such a "normal daily sight" I'd forgotten they were there.
