I blew 3rd gear on Saturday so I had to finish out the event with just 1st, 2nd and 4th.

Surprisingly my lap times were still about the same. Without 3rd gear, I was forced to enter T1 and T5 at higher speeds to save momentum. A bit of a "pucker factor" but it actually worked out good.

I am currently swapping in another gearbox so I can run the VRG Watkins Glen event on Oct 10 (the old F1 weekend).

Maybe third gear is just extra weight!

Here are a couple short videos from the Cortina before the differential gave up on Friday.
First, a quick clip of my shift knob and part of the lever departing from the gearbox during my warmup. Pretty confusing at first!

Next is a few laps from qualifying about an hour later. I did an extra lap in the warmup to make sure I could still shift, and I managed a personal best (I think) of 1:20.363!

Since I can only post 2 videos at a time, this is a GREAT race between Dad his G4 and Todd Reid in his Super 7. They traded the lead back and forth all race and at multiple points around the track, and ended up lapping the field except for third place!

Hahaha....so I wasn't the only person with a clunky drivetrain!

Right now I'm taking a break from putting the engine/trans back in. Should be done today (so I'll be ready for The Glen).

We watched the race with the Super 7 and the G4. That was a good one!

Is that your blue Spitfire? You were parked right across from us, so I took a look at it. Very clean! I wish my 1500 had looked a third as nice as yours... Is it a 1500, or a MkIV with a 1300? It looks pretty original, too.

This is a really cool video for me personally because it was my first time ever driving Dad's Ginetta G4, as well as my second-ever time in a right hand drive car. That said, I think I did alright. I was going about 6 or 7/10 and short shifting by 1,000rpm and still did a 1:19 flat! What a fast car...

Yeah that's mine, a 1975 1500 I've been working on for a while, still running the 1500motor. I have completely rebuilt the suspension (need to get it to lower) and running a GT6 trans, the only thing missing is my 1300 it's on the bench life keeps getting in the way.Hopefully I'll have it in by the spring (for the Jefferson). I was admiring the Ginetta, one of my favorite cars. The Cortina a cool little car, I rememberseeing them on the race track when I was in the UK many years ago. Btw, nice run and video.

P.S. I just viewed the shifter video. My knob came off in my hand on Saturday, not as bad as your issue but still unexpected and funny:highly_amused:
