I've been rather busy lately with work and volunteer activities so have not had much time on the forum. On top of the job and NAMI, we recently undertook a major kitchen re-modeling project (long overdue!). I saved a bit of money by doing the demolition of the old kitchen and getting everything ready for the new kitchen myself. I did the demo a week ago. The new cabinets were delivered (in boxes) a week ago Wednesday and the installers came out the following Thursday the 3rd (July) to open the boxes and do a cabinet inspection. We were to have had the install begin this Monday, 7 July. I say "were to have had" because, as luck would have it, there was some damage to the cabinets as delivered - some minor, but one of the 36" three-drawer base cabinets was very badly damaged (looks like it was dropped hard).

All those components had to be re-ordered and the install has now been moved back to 21 July! Once the install of the cabinets is done. I have to install and hook up the new cast iron kitchen sink. Then, the countertop guy has to come out and measure everything for the new counter tops - then a week later, will come back to install the new counter tops. In other words - we get to camp out for another month with no kitchen!

I spent the 4th celebrating by patching plaster, painting and laying tiles (the old cabinets were on the slab with 13x13 tiles in the kitchen up to the cabinets. Now I have to tile the areas where the old cabinets were so that the new cabinets will sit on tile instead of on the slab. I hope this looks good when I'm done because I'm not doing it again in my life time! Well, coffee break is over - everybody back on your head!

Don't envy you a bit! Though not nearly as intense, we're in the middle of packing for the move to E. Tenn. Most of our stuff is going into storage until the house is finished, but we are storing some things in the garage over there, and we've been making trips back and forth over the past couple weeks. Two more trips to go, then we're over there permanently!

I don't envy either one of ya. We're still fussin' with the bathroom here, need to rearrange some plumbing and install new vanity/sink and trim out the walls meeting the shower area... I ~hate~ to be doin' this stuff. BUT!!! I also don't want to be in my dotage and have some piece of this 1980's house go sideways and NOT be able to fix it then. Havin' to pay some hireling to do a job I know wouldn't be done the way I would do it really chaps my junk.

Basil - congrats on the (slow-going) improvements. Perfection isnt' obtained in a hurry! :jester:

Regarding not having a kitchen for another month ... remember most pizza shops deliver ...

And with all those topping choices - you'll never repeat, regardless of breakfast, lunch, or dinner!

Looks like it going to be a nice place! I'm hoping this place is the last place for us! After 24 years in the military and a dozen moves, I was ready to settle down!

Yeah, I hear you! This WILL be our last place. Not sure how many times we've moved, but feels like a dozen.

Spent the fourth finishing the patching and painting and starting to re-screen all our screen windows. Also installed some new light fixtures in the kitchen. Can't wait for this endeavor to be completed!

You own a house, Basil -- there is no such thing as "completed."

Yeah, I figured that out a long time ago! I have more things on my bucket list to do than I have years to live.

Speaking of time - as of today, 10 more days to live without cabinets before the install date!
