Everyone is identifying the wheels as BBS, and when I first saw the pic of it from my friend, I said the same. But the center-caps identify them as AREs They are in really decent shape, and will clean up nicely with a bit of work. I really like how they look. If I couldn't have the stock rims, these would be on the top of my list for customs.
I hope there is not a whole lot wrong with the car. I have to repair the wiring first, then I can get it running and assess the rest of it. I don't even dare hook up the battery yet. The brakes work, but I'm not sure how well. The clutch pedal does nothing, so I bet the slave cylinder is leaky. tires look good, not too old, and plenty of tread. I'm not sure about anything else.
Story is my friends son bought it and drove it home (about a 40 mile trip) then while working on it to get it to pass inspection he replaced the motor for the pop-up headlights, turned on the switch, and POOF! all the smoke came out of the motor wires! from the switch to the motor. He bought a used harness from ebay (It's the wrong one I've noticed) and started taking apart the dash to do the swap but lost interest. that is how it's been sitting since last year.
I put in a lowball price last spring to my friend and said "if it doesn't sell, and you need it out of your yard, I can give you this much in cash." So here it is 6 months later, and he decided it needed to leave.
I can't wait to hear it run (I hope?!)
