One of my favorite cheats and elegant machines all rolled into one is the ATMOS clock. Amazing machines, and they do seem a little like perpetual motion, just won't work in space.
One of those clocks showed up on Pawn Stars a while back. It gets the energy it needs to run from temperature and atmospheric pressure changes. Once they are set up and running, they don't like to be touched, so you better put it in a place where it won't ever be moved...even for dusting.
