Another step towards computer's running all

A pretty standard cover of Country Roads... but, what was going on with that pizza at 2:43?

Having spent around 45 years as a mainframe guy, doing tech support and some coding, I will note that much of the code writing has moved offshore to cheaper places. Most of the coders I'd help out were working what for them were overnight shifts to match US daytime shifts. And when I retired my spot was moved to the other side of the world time zone wise too to cut costs. What I would recommend to all, particularly the younger folks, is to have a needs to be physically there option or two you'd want to do, just in case. If you don't have to physically be there todays tech means it could be done pretty much anywhere, and the corporate world is run by bean counters these days....

It has always been run by bean counters.

True, but bean counters years ago that tended to come up through the company and understood how things worked. Now the senior execs tend to be folks who come in for a few years, cuts costs without regard for possible future consequences, take their stock options and salaries and move on to the next opportunity. Had one chief information officer a few years ago that in a November suddenly cut 25% of the IT staff. Turned out we found out it allowed her to exceed her cost cutting target for the year and get an additional million in bonus money. Couple months into the new year, she was gone to a higher paying position on the west coast.

LOL, it she had a plate, she could have carried the wine at the same time.
