Have you considered removing the engine fan entirely and replacing it with a 12" electrical puller fan? This is what i am doing with my Florida TR3A. Treads from other TR3 owners have said this has worked very well. The fan elimination kit replaces over 6 pounds of metal with an approximately 8 oz of aircraft aluminum. I found my fan elimination kit at https://www.pattonmachine.com/Fan-Eliminator-Kit.htm, but i know there are others on the market. Removal of the engine fan makes room for the puller fan. I am going to have it thermostat controlled, but you can do a manual switch if you prefer. Just a suggestion. Mike E. 62 TR3A

View attachment 27859This is what I have on my 58. It's a BMW 2002 tii fan recommended by Christian Marx who raced with one at the time. I had to bore out something but was easy to do since it's plastic. Works well, fit perfectly, and yes it IS balanced despite the awkward looking blades.

Hi Peter,

I'm installing a BMW fan on my 58 TR3. You mention only minor modifications to the mount holes to match the hub. I've made those modifications, but a test fit of the radiator shows there is likely to be interference between the fan blades and the lower radiator hose. Did you run into that issue and could you speak to that concern? I've preparing to lop out the holes on the frame to slide the radiator to the right as far as possible....that may provide the clearance I need.

I cringe when I see backwards fans, WTFP?? do it right or don't do it.
The red Tr6 fan is not as easy of a swap as the Tr7 fan , re-using the Tr3 hub.
Never tried an adapter,might make it work OK

Lop out holes on the frame. Yea, I agree w/mctriumph. Why work around it. Purchase the correct parts and be done with it.

Actually, I didn't need to lop the radiator mounting holes out like I thought I would. Once radiator was bolted in, there was enough clearance for the BMW fan at the lower radiator hose/outlet. Plenty of clearance all around, it's all good!
