In 1960, we bought a house for $12,000.00, plus change. Just got discharged from the Navy and we thought that was all the money in the world! To us, it was! Had a 1959 Volvo 544 for transportation. (y) I think it was a 59? Those were the days. PJ

When my mom and dad bought their first home in 70, I think they paid $17,000. I just bought a car for almost 3 times that amount. The times they are a changing’

Two-striper in the USAF, $62.50 every two weeks!

In '71 I bought my first car. It was a brand new Ford Torino. Vinyl top, and 302 V8. Out the door for $3,500.

'71 I was 10 years old - 1986 I started at $17,000 per year. I couldn't make it through a month on that stipend. Mrs JP got a job as a supply teacher that paid $150 a day - While I will admit that there has been no time in my life where $150 made such a difference to our family and it was lovely to be starting a family and setting out in life - At the same time I cannot think of a single reason to want to go back to those days.

1971 bought my first car. 1968 VW convertible. $325

My very first car was used - a 1963 Pontiac Catalina in 1970 when I first got my license. In my junior year I snagged a 67 EType Coupe (the owner took my Pontiac in trade plus I paid around $2600. Then, I sold it (DUMB) when I joined the Air Force in Nov 72. I was carless unti I got to my first duty station after tech school. This was a 1974 Mercury Capri, which I bought off the showroom floor. That was a nice little car.

The Capri was the car I wanted to buy. I told the Capri dealer that I would buy the if he included the AM radio. He refused so I bought the Torino. The same day that I bought the Torino, the Capri dealer called to say they would include the radio. What’s that saying about “You snooze, you……”?

My Old Fella got a Capri V-6 four-speed new in '73, I was in S.E.A. at the time and not consulted. I didn't think it measured up to all the hype.

First car, 1949 - a 1934 Ford convertible. Cost - $150; sold for $125. second car - 1940 Ford fordor sedan. Cost - $500. Traded on 1951 Ford. First sports car - 1951 MG TD. Swapped even for a 1952 Ford Club Coupe from a Ford dealer in Philly - $1,100.00. All my 3 TDs cost the same $1100.00. Rstored the third one and sold for $9,500.00. Only car I ever made money on if you don't count my 600 hours of labor.

First new car I bought was a 70 Duster 340. Except for the tires, it was capable of high speeds.
I recall a friend's Duster. Scary at "high speeds"!!

It was in late '72 I found my Elan S-3. Had been driving a '66 MGB since '68, beginning freshman year in college.

Dad had a 73 Dart when I was high school age. Thing rusted apart pretty quick, but you couldn't kill that slant 6 with a sledge hammer. Guy who eventually bought it with 200k on it was looking for a "low mileage" example to replace his 400k one.

I bought a '64 Galaxie in near perfect condition (59,000 miles)
from a neighbor whose husband had died (not in the car BTW) for $400.

Fifty years ago my dad was a junior in high school.
