Year and Vin number

My car has 3 tags on it. 1. "when ordering parts quote car # GAN11/1893. 2. BGE 1918. 3. on engine " 12CD/DA/H 30569. Is any of this information helpful in finding the year of the car and possibly the Vin number. Thank MAS

The GAN number (attached on the dash area next to the centre metal piece for the windshield is the VIN - should start with GAN.

Here is how to decode it

G= MG
A= A series engine (also used on 1500)
N= 2 seater
6= Midget MkIV
176216= vehicle number
G= Abingdon assembly plant

I googled this because I was too lazy to look it up - found a decoder here: > Sprite and MG Midget VIN Number Lookup - Owners World <

There is a body number and there is an engine number as you note but there is no such such as a matching number car - they each had their own numbers but they are not related to each other.

It is also worth noting that the year of registration doesn't always match the year of manufacture. Sometimes they were registered in the year in which they were sold and not the year they were built.

So, I just put my VIN in the decoder and this is what came up:

Murray, one more thing, you may want to post in the Spridget forum (let me know if you want me to move this post)

Spridget = Sprite + Midget.

The MG guys (mostly MGB but not all) are nice but they have 'size' issues. :D
