Good afternoon members,
I own a 1973 Series 1 Daimler Vanden Plas Double six, in Coral. The car is in very good working order, condition, and driven about three times a week, and twice a year on extended holiday drives (I drove from Adelaide to Newcastle last November 2020). You Jaguar experts will notice the vinyl roof is missing, I removed it several years ago when the car was given a bare metal respray in two pack to the same colour specifications as original duco finish. Australian sun and black vinyl aren't a good mix and there was some corrosion under the vinyl so I left it off for the time being.
I also own a 1988 XJ-S HE V12 convertible in white. This car is also in very good condition, although not as good as the Daimler, as a consequence I am conducting a tidy up of the interior, the paint, and the engine bay, which has just had new:
a. Cam chain and tensioners; b. rear main oil seal, torque converter seals; c. injectors; d. radiator and hoses; e. plugs, leads, and distributor cap; f. vacuum hoses; g. AAV; h. throttle bushes. All replaced as a result of preventative maintenance or oil/water leaks. I have also conducted repairs on the differential bearings, rear brakes, and shock absorbers. So the car is well looked after, just not as good as I would like it to be at this time.
I am currently replacing the door cards, cheater panels, and some woodwork on the interior of the XJ-S and if any members are interested I could post this process, as it has been a very interesting project, with some curly problems associated.
Lastly, and as an anathema to this forum, I own a Maserati 3200GT, which is a mid life crisis car. It exceeds my driving skill ability significantly, although demonstrates the difference between the 1973, and 1988 car technology, and handling characteristics, noting the Daimler and Jaguar were not designed as a sports car.
I look forward to sharing technical advice, parts location/sourcing, and warnings of potential pitfalls apparent with owning these fine British cars.
