Good afternoon members,
I own a 1973 Series 1 Daimler Vanden Plas Double six, in Coral. The car is in very good working order, condition, and driven about three times a week, and twice a year on extended holiday drives (I drove from Adelaide to Newcastle last November 2020). You Jaguar experts will notice the vinyl roof is missing, I removed it several years ago when the car was given a bare metal respray in two pack to the same colour specifications as original duco finish. Australian sun and black vinyl aren't a good mix and there was some corrosion under the vinyl so I left it off for the time being.
I also own a 1988 XJ-S HE V12 convertible in white. This car is also in very good condition, although not as good as the Daimler, as a consequence I am conducting a tidy up of the interior, the paint, and the engine bay, which has just had new:
a. Cam chain and tensioners; b. rear main oil seal, torque converter seals; c. injectors; d. radiator and hoses; e. plugs, leads, and distributor cap; f. vacuum hoses; g. AAV; h. throttle bushes. All replaced as a result of preventative maintenance or oil/water leaks. I have also conducted repairs on the differential bearings, rear brakes, and shock absorbers. So the car is well looked after, just not as good as I would like it to be at this time.
I am currently replacing the door cards, cheater panels, and some woodwork on the interior of the XJ-S and if any members are interested I could post this process, as it has been a very interesting project, with some curly problems associated.
Lastly, and as an anathema to this forum, I own a Maserati 3200GT, which is a mid life crisis car. It exceeds my driving skill ability significantly, although demonstrates the difference between the 1973, and 1988 car technology, and handling characteristics, noting the Daimler and Jaguar were not designed as a sports car.
I look forward to sharing technical advice, parts location/sourcing, and warnings of potential pitfalls apparent with owning these fine British cars.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

You have a nice collection of cars there.
Sounds like the XJ-S was a while I am doing it I may as well do this as well job.

David

Thank you David,
Yes as usual the jobs snowballed, while we had the engine apart decided to do all the other stuff. Currently repairing a leak on the convertible top hydraulics, a member on this forum has got me started but I will post a blow by blow description of how to do it once I have finished as the manual is rubbish!
The XJ-S interior has proven relatively easy, although the door cards have been more troublesome than I anticipated, the card medium being the big ticket item. MDF doesn't work, so I'm using a type of plastic cardboard which I hope will prove durable, weatherproof, and sufficiently rigid. If it works I'll do the Daimler, as the cards in that are toast.
I have also purchased a new set of seat skins from the USA, for the Jag, and am going to have a go at upholstery. Nothing else to do now that the uniform has come off: hopefully for the last time!
Cheers, Chris

Welcome Chris - lovely cars! Have never seen a Daimler (or Jag) that colour - striking! I am very interested in the door card description as I am just doing this on my Vauxhall - if you post in the Jag forum I will certainly come visit. cheers!

Welcome to BCF, Chris! Say, is your Avatar sideways on purpose or did you just take the picture with an iPhone and that happened when you uploaded?

Good morning Boss,
Despite rotating my picture and re posting the photograph continues to display sideways. I shall have another try at placing my picture horizontal, I was thinking of posting it upside down to indicate being in Australia, but it stubbornly remains sideways!

Resized! That worked.
Was that picture taken with an iPhone? iPhones have a known issue of not having proper orientation when images are uploaded to some forums. I find that just cropping the image a bit and resaving usually fixes the problem. There's a long technical reason for the issue having to do with how the iPhoone treats EXIM data. Anyway, welcome aboard!
