Can't remove wire wheels.

I have always put grease on splines before I put wire wheels on. Putting grease on is the right thing to do, right? I am starting to wonder if doing so is wrong or not? Have been doing this for 9 years with no problems. Marty
 
I've been using anti-seize for a long time. Doesn't go away and doesn't seem to leach out too much through the spoke openings:

Absolutely! Grease/anti-seize keeps the splines from rusting together; any old grease or anti-seize works fine. Smear some silicone RTV on the inside of the hubs to prevent the grease from being slung out onto the splines.
