6-cylinder alloy valve cover

Re: 6 cycl alloy valve cover?

Smooth aluminum, no fins or script is what came on my '57 100-6MM. I think any improvement over the stock cover is an upgrade.

Now your talkin - (no G) - lightness combined with strength, what extra BHP can you get with it?:highly_amused:

Re: 6 cycl alloy valve cover?

Red57,

The alloy cover you have was sold by Warshawsky and Co (now J C Whitney). I purchased mine for $23.95 in October 1968. Still have the receipt as I'm a bit of a pack rat. FYI, the oil cap matches the original I received although I've updated it since then. I purchased my BJ8 new and originally bought this to quiet the valve clatter but it had only minimal impact on the noise.

You must add a sound screen barrier to the engine hood-

jman15 Thanks, I have often wondered where they came from, also nice to know I have the correct cap.

Re: 6 cycl alloy valve cover?

Bling aside, yes it is there but rigidity is the upgrade you get gong this way.
Regarding the bling I never liked the covers with the oil filler cap in the middle.

ON the other hand, I do not understand why tappet noise was not reduced using any one of the rigid valve covers discussed.-??

I think they had the cap in the middle because of clearance issues due to the height of the hotrod-style vented filler cap used in lieu of the Healey "T" vent fitting.

FWIW - I didn't like that aesthetic either.

Probably the problems are the AH poor sound protection of the firewall- this protection can be increased by the interior adding a warm and sound protection to the rear of firewall and gearbox cover- adding also the same to the hood can help a lot -
on my car the alloy valve cover ended the leaks problems- and change the sound of the tappet now more faint

Andrea: that's what I would expect to happen--Keoke

A terrific deal for the small fuel injection hose clamps:

Not really the high quality stainless steel syle I've used.....

Re: 6 cycl alloy valve cover?

Patrick, I would really like to see a picture of a correct filler cap - the one I have is what came with it when I bought it used. My cap is not a vent/breather but seals with a cork gasket.

Michael, That's interesting because mine has a distinct crown from front to rear which I really like. Isn't that the point of bling, something you like.

To the original questions, I don't think it's really an 'improvement" but I do like them.

Dave
After seeing the flat non-breather caps I’m no longer sure mine is correct. I got it used about 40 years ago. I’d like to know who has the flat caps for the oil filler opening.

Received the clamp assortment today. Quality is same as JEGS clamps above. Both are same metal thickness.

Dougie - maybe you could post source info on the SS clamps.

First let me say, I don't run with the usual crowd. I drive past the Home Depots, I buy my lumber at a lumber yard and my paint at a paint store.
And my clamps at store that specializes in them, even if they're down-under....
