That's what it sounds like... The guy used a micrometer to make them match the old ones, but I guess maybe those were dragging as well... our test drive when I bought it was rather short and tame...
How much should be taken off, do you think? 1/16 th?

Also.... I can't find a diagram of my front brakes at Moss.... I have 2 cylinders on each wheel... are those original or from something else as well? Stupid question here but I'm guessing the fronts need adjusted now and then just like the backs?
 
They should be turned down just enough to skim the surface and/or true them up. The problem with over-cutting the drums is that the shoes will no longer be concentric ( imagine a small circle inside and touching the edge of a slightly larger one) and will only contact the drums at a small area. This could also be your problem with the way your brakes feel. With the age of these cars, it is possible they've been turned before. The shoes can be "lapped" with sand paper to match the radius of the drums but your guy should be able to tell you the condition. You might just spring for a new set of drums.
 
Sorry for the confusion. These are new drums. I had to have the height of the side wall of the drums machined down to match the side wall height of the old ones. The sound I heard is pretty much metal on metal rotational in nature... I was thinking maybe the lip of the drum is contacting the back plate when sideways pressure is applied in a sharp turn.....
 
Sounds like stock front brakes.

On the rear drums rubbing, it may just be the "corner" of the drum rubbing the backplate. I'd use a angle grinder and take off the corners. Then color them with a magic marker and do a drive. If they are still rubbing it will be easier to see where.

Yeah.. I see that on the Moss diagram now... shows 1 cylinder.. I guess both are the same. It also shows the adjuster under the second cylinder (front)? Could it be that it needs adjusted?

Not sure what the 'corner' of the round drum might be.... can you elaborate a smidge? Do you mean I need to bevel the top outside edge of the sidewall a bit?
 
Inside Edge of Brake Drum sometimes needs relieved for clearance. Just a smidgen.

1 tried OEM Drums all around on Bugsy IV I did not like the feel and stopping power of the brakes. But wanted to get som miles on Bugsy IV before the snow fell. Put less than 200 miles on OEM Drum Setup and upgraded to front disks and upgrade rear brakes

So... a slight beveling of the top inside edge of the sidewall of the drum?

They just felt weak? I'm really not sure how these stock ones should feel, so it's hard for me to say they are or are not working right. Although I can say if the current stopping power is the best I can expect, I'll be upgrading as well.... what's the front disk upgrade cost, approximately?
 
Ok... so I pulled the back drums to day to see if I can spot the grinding / rubbing spot. I think I can, but I'd like you guys to look at the pics...

So.... In the pics you can see some scraping marks on the back plate... and I also tried to get a pics of the edges and inside of the drums. They've taken on a somewhat purpleish color.... I'm not metal expert, but doesn't it look like it's gotten a bit toasty? These are pics from both sides.... both were pretty tough to get off the hubs even with the adjusters back all way, way off. My analysis would be the drum is scrapping on the back plate... I had them cut down to match the old ones, but maybe they just need another 1/8 or 1/16 taken off.... like an idiot I threw out the old ones... duh. I can't really see any other scraping points?

The axle flexes more than you might imagine, so even if it doesn't rub when going in a straight line, it still might rub when going around a corner. I'd scribe a line about 1/16 from the edge and grind it down to that line.
