Pedal box clearance mod for triple Weber clearance

Hello all, hope you can help me.

I have a BT7 that is about to go in to the shop for full rotisserie repaint. I figure now is the right time to do any intended chassis modifications.

At some point in the future, I would like to convert the engine to triple Webers. I have read many debates on pro's/con's of that conversion and don't want to reinvigorate it here.

I have read that pedal box clearance can be a problem with the Weber setup. Easy for me to get the pedal box modified now as the engine is out of the car and the chassis is getting prepped (I've already had lots of rusty sheet metal cut out and replaced). Can someone please provide details of the modification needed (example: pictures pre/post modification, dimensions for pedal box modification, etc)?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Rob

Hey Rob. An episode from last season's "Wheelers Dealers' (Velocity Channel) covered a triple weber conversion on a BJ8 and included bespoke headers from Ant the fabricator. Feasible without chassis or pedal box modification; however, there was likely a lot of off camera work to fit, jet, tune etc. Check it out and determine if a departure from an original spec BT7 tricarb is worth the effort. GONZO.

Thanks, I saw that episode and thought the same. Didn’t seem like they had to do much but like you say I imagine they left a lot of detail out. I found that Denis Welch sells a new weld in foot box and may just order that.

When I first put the Webers on (1985 or '86) was with a stock pedal box, and the rearmost carb had severe filter clearance limitations; I had to modify one of the foam & wirecloth types to a thickness of less than one inch (<1").

When I tore the car down for a restoration, I modified the pedal box down to the actual width of the pedal assembly, gaining enough space to fit a conventional__shallow__filter element. While the elements are standard, I did make up my own airbox to contain them.

So while yes, you can fit the Webers (45 DCOEs in my case) without modifications to the chassis, there's no room for a filter, and I use the shallowest velocity stacks.

All pertaining to lefthand drive cars, of course.

Wow, thank you for those pictures, that's really helpful! I was picturing that the box was narrowed, not cut down vertically. I'll save these and send these to my shop.

I also order the Denis Welch pedal assembly. Now that I see how you've modified your box I understand how the Denis Welch piece is supposed to be installed.
