I've had Skype on my desktop for a long time but have not used it in a number of years. This afternoon I tried signing into Skype and got a message that I needed to update to a newer version of Skype.
OK, I did that and all went well. The problem is that when I try to boot up Skype I get a dialog box telling me there is a problem using it with FireFox and I should try it on IE or Chrome.
I will ditch Skype before I switch to another browser.
Is anyone here able to use Skype with FireFox?
 
I have an iMac and for me, Skype is a stand alone app that is independent of the browser. It sounds like you are using Skype somehow though the browser? Is it just some browser extension that is not working? You should still be able to open the Skype program and use it as a stand alone? You might want to go to the Mozzella forum and post a question there - if it's a common problem someone may have a solution there.
 
Yes bas you are correct all around. It appears that when I updated the stand alone program it now attempts to launch Skype via the web therefore it uses Firefox.
I even deleted Skype then went to the Skype website and downloaded Skype for Windows with the same result.... when you launch Skype it goes to my browser to log into Skype.
I'm thinking Microsoft doesn't want to make it easy for Mozzella.

See if there is a "Skype Extension" installed in FF and un-install if so. You should be able to open Skype by its self (at least I can on my iMac)

I just un-installed the Skype extension on the tool bar. When I open the Skype program it now takes me to "Skype for web" which won't open in FF. In doing a google search I see that I'm not the only one with the problem.
About 15 mins ago I used skype on my iphone just fine... called Australia and the connection was great.
I want my skype to open as it used to without taking me to the web :mad:

If others are having the problem it likely will be something that will be fixed in a future update.
 
I did see the suggestion about clearing history and cookies. No, I have not tried that since I wasn't convinced it would help but I will try it later this morning.
 
OK, I just cleared everything out, cookies, cache, etc. and then attempted to start Skype. Below is the error message I got; I'm not even using IE!

That's one of the first things I did yesterday and still no joy :grief:
I guess I'll have to wait until it is resolved by Mozilla or MS as there's not much else I can do. Thanks for all your suggestions!
 
I haven't cranked up Skype in a couple years. Just tried it (I don't use it with a browser); I run it on my Dell E6400 laptop, under Win10. When I signed in, I got "We're updating Skype". After a few seconds, I got the usual Skype opening screen and it works fine.

That's the way it used to work for me... I used it without a browser but now it seems to be only browser based for Firefox. Strange.
 
Just checking - my stand-alone Skype is version 7.37.0.103, as of this morning's update.

Thanks TOC. I did go to Skype.com just two days ago and downloaded their latest version but it is web-based.
I'll give your link a try.
 
One of those linques shows desktop and further down a hyperlinque to a browser-based Skype.
