Toasted O/D solenoid

Hi everyone
I have burned out the new solenoid on my BN4 overdrive. I suspect that it wasn't adjusted properly and the points to the secondary circuit were not opening. Either that or it's faulty. I'll put a fuse in the circuit; but, can any one explain where to attach a multi-meter to check the amperage drop when the solenoid engages?
Thanks
Matthew

A MULTI METER WILL REQUIRE THAT THE AMPERAGE SCALE BE USED AND IT MUST BE Installed IN SERIES WITH THE solenoid POWER LINE. The meter may jump initially then show a steady state 1 Ampere current.
However, this is not the best method to use.

Preferably a scope will show the initial transient's peak voltage and its demise if the holding circuit is properly contacted.

I think you can get a Meter that measures amps from HF that will give you an amp measurement that clips on the wire.

Matthew:
SCOPE= Ocilloscope

Clamp on ammeters probably will not respond to the initial transient current but if it shows a constant 1 ampere flow you are prolly good to go.

Conversely, a steady state higher current indication will say holding circuit not engaged.

Adjusting the arm is critical to the life of the solenoid. That is why you need an amp meter. My OD runs sweet now. (I hope for another 54 years)
