It's a 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster!

At last one's come on the market! I'll just sell the ol' Rambler and use the proceeds to buy it! (or at least, one tire valve cap ...)

Think they left off a couple of zeros.

I'm not convinced it's a 1956 SLR. Very little description, no engine area photos.

hmmmm

I think they may have that one for a while.

what could you do with a 18.5 million dollar car anyway?

Keep it in a spare shaft in your Mexican gold mine?

John - I was thinking the same thing. Then I read that M-B actually built "SLR conversion kits" for the 190 SL during production. And even afterward, some owners were doing conversions on their own, including bigger engines. Changes included windscreen, doors, no roll down windows, bumpers, straking, etc.

Problem with the one in the Hemmings ad - there's so little detail, and only exterior shots (no engine), that there's no telling how it became an SLR. Price is ridiculous, even if it *were* an original 190 SLR. (the R = Rennwagen - German for race car)

Here's a couple 190 SLRs, but I think both were conversions.

And here's an original 1957 190 SLR built by Mercedes-Benz.
