Has anyone else experienced the problem of replacement points for a DM6 distributor not being able to close enough to achieve the required point gap?

Not me, but perhaps you can shorten the cam wiper on the points by carefully filing??

The issue is, and could only be, with the base plate. That is why I posted, to see if anyone else has experienced this problem.

The part number on the packaging was correct based on the Victoria British catalog.

It's interesting that "after market" points from both Moss and VB are $6.95 and $5.95 respectively. Lucas points from Moss are $32.95. VB does not offer Lucas points for the DM6 distributor.

If you decide to order a new set of points,be sure and check with Healey Surgeons OK!

-------------OR:
Just put the points in the bin and get yourself a good Pertronics--Points even at < $6 the head ache ain't worth it.:encouragement:

It’s the bottom plate that comes with a new set of points.

The elongated hole for one of the mounting screws is too short to allow the points to close enough. If this hole was longer, the inner part of the plate would rub on the distributor shaft. Also, the hole for the adjustment screw is not large enough to adjust the points to the required gap.

Drill or enlarge it by filing TOO.--:highly_amused:

But I would rather call Healey Surgeons.

Have you spoken to the vendor? The vendors should stand behind their products and bend over backwards to make things right when problems occur.

Getting a refund is not a concren, as victoria birtish has always refunded my money for all the bad parts they have sold me over the past 10 plus years.
Getting a set of points that will actually work is the goal.

In the GOD (Good Old Days) if we needed ignition parts, we'd just go to the local auto parts store and buy Standard's Blue Streak parts for our Healeys. Excellent parts, made in the US. Didn't buy them because I hated Lucas, it was just they were available without a 25 mile round trip to the local BMC garage, worked great and I didn't have to pay a "sporty car" surcharge. Standard is still around, but I don't see the high-end Blue Streak line anymore. Here's the catalog entry, which runs a Lucas part number: https://ecatalog.smpcorp.com/STD/#/vehicles/Id/203896 Like everything else, doesn't look like they come from the US anymore and I wouldn't be surprised no matter what the source these all come from the same factory in China and are rebranded. Moss, says theirs are made in the UK, but there's little transparency to find out the producing company.

I have a set of Blue Streaks for Healeys; they have a copper base. First $1,000,000 takes 'em.

ps. I'll throw in a Standard brand condenser with the points
