hey guys, i noticed that if i push down on and pull up on the rear of my body i can see the door gaps move slightly and i can feel it when driving. i know my frame is good because i have been under there quite a bit lately. what could be causing this? the only thing i can think of is shot body mounts. any other ideas? the rear end was bottoming out on the bump stops for a while so im thinking maybe that had an effect on this? anyone with similar experiences? thanks

It is pretty unlikely that your body mounts are causing this. If anything, if original, they are quite crusty, with no flexibility left in them. While driving, can you reach out and stick your fingers in the rear door gaps, or let someone else drive while you as passenger do it. Do you feel a lot of movement in the gap. Are you absolutely sure the frame joint in front of your outer swing arm mount is solid?

This really could be within normal range. After all, this is a body-on-frame car, unlike the MGB, which is unibody.

This is normal for these cars. The frames while looking stout are quite flexible. If you take a close look at the rear door gap you will notice that there is a larger gap at the top then the bottom. This is by design to accommodate the frame flex you observed.

Some people have noticed that if they use a jack under the extreme rear of the car, the frame flexes so much the doors cannot be opened. This phenomena is also noted when just one lift point is used to jack up the car, or the car is on extremely uneven ground. Door gaps will also close as weight is placed in the cockpit.

ah, ok thanks ray and everyone else. i had another tr5 before which needed a complete resto and had some frame issues. the one i have currently had a good frame, i am sure and i thought there may be something wrong. glad to know that it does flex a bit when im driving. ray, when i stick my finger in the door gap while i drive it does move a bit. i was just checking. thanks guys
