Yet Another Tire Size Question

Any foreseeable problems running this size tire on a stock BJ8?

175/80R15 BFG TOURING TA

The 165/80 15 I was going to acquire from Tire Rack are back ordered. The 175/80 15's are available, for a reasonable price, from Coker.

These tires are very shorted dated. We have 165/80/15 tires in stock. Federal, 420 t/r temp and traction A, made later part of 2007.

Hendrix Wire Wheel

Funny you should reply, my wife just asked me, "so, you're not going to be sending the wheels to North Carolina?" Because I had been telling her I'd be sending the wheels to Hendrix.

I've been trying to balance Healey budget against current other needs...so I've been shopping for the tubes, bands, etc, and was going to let the local guy give it a go. He's pretty knowledgeable, but you guys are the reputed best at what you do.

If you don't mind, can you tell me what it would cost, (round numbers) to get my wheels (very good condition) to you, new bands, tubes, tires and balancing, and shipped back to me (zip:13066), you can PM me if you think it would be more appropriate.

Thanks,

Dave

Jerry,

After you get finished helping Dave, I have a question;

I noticed your 185/80-15 Vredesteins for sale on your web site.
According to an online tire size tool on the web, these tires should be around 26.6- " in diameter. That is about another 1/2 inch greater ride height than 165/80-15. Will those Vredesteins fit my 60 spoke Dayton wheels on my 65 BJ8 ? They are a lot more $$$ than the 165/80-15s but may be worth the extra money to me if I get another 1/2 inch ride height.

See you at Breakfast next Saturday,

Ed

edk, i think i mentioned this here before that my 185-70-15 vredesteins dont fit in the trunk of my bj7 as normal and probably the same problem fitting in bj8's. :savewave:

Ed,

The 185/80/15 tire will mount on your wheel. However it will scrap the fender wells. This tire is too big for Healeys.
The 185/80 is for Jaguars.

The 185/70/15 fits Healeys just fine but they are not as tall as 165/80.

I know a lot of people are looking for a tire to increase the ride high but there is not one available.

See ya at breakfast on the 5th of April,

Jerry

Have you tried raising, cutting or removing the two wood blocks that the tire presses against?

I cut the wood block against the back panel to make it thinner. Now the tire goes forward more and does not touch the rear top of the trunk.

I believe the orginal tires were to wedge under the wood block.

Happy motoring!

Roger,

:iagree:

You are right about the wood blocks, especially the one that the metal hold down rod attaches to. Even with the old 155/-15 tire
on the rim, that particular wood block would hold the spare back toward the boot lid, too close for comfort.
I substituted a piece of plywood ( painted black ) and then the spare would slide toward the front of the car a lot more.
It is an easy fix if the spare is just a " little " to big to
fit.

edk, yes that is the fix, i only mentioned the problem for the benefit of our "concourse" friends, myself i went with the optional "continental kit" :jester:
