XKE Accelerator Ppedal Position

This sounds wierd, but it is driving me nuts.
I have a Series 1 65 XKE coupe. There is a raised area on the right side of the driver's side floor on which the accelerator pedal is located (about 3 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches higher than the rest of the floor). However, when driving, the heel of your foot is on the floorboard next to the raised area. This means that the heel of your foot is below the pedal and the ball of your foot only engages the lower half of the pedal (rather than on the top half, which because of leverage means that more foot pressure is required to depress the pedal). In this position, it is extremely difficult for me to modulate the gas pedal properly. I have to press hard with the ball of my foot to give the car gas (the linkage set up is fine). I'm told that all Series 1s are like this.
Has anyone come up with a fix for this or am I the only guy in the world with this problem?

Tony, I have a 67 and yes they all have the same problem . Its not the accel. pedal, its the brake pedal pad hanging too low . Try unbolting the pad from the pedal and flipping it upside down. I even heated mine to flatten it out so it would fit the pedal shaft. I flipped both pedal pads , so they would look the same. I have size 12 feet, now I have room . Kevin

The one thing I found to be the hardest to get use to. The accelerator pedal, it keeps your foot at a bad angle. Guess I have gotten use to it after all these years. I find myself moving my foot around after driving a while. There's so much linkage that the pedal has to be fastened down to be able to move it all.
