Wiring is out! [mostly]

The harness is now out of the Tunebug and on the floor. All that's left is the wire to the fuel tank, and the headlight pigtails. I need to find a siphon to drain the full fuel tank, and I'm going to wait to pull the headlight wires until I see what the new ones look like. I've got a few new photos of the progress up here:

We're coming right along. Should get tools and the new harness in by early next week, and I've got a long Moss order list together of all sorts of bits I need right now (coming your way momentarily, Tony).

Most of the gas had gelled in my tank. I found it just as easy to drop the tank and then pour out the gas. It's not that big and I think I put my hydraulic jack under it. My 2 cents

Drew, if that is the original tank, it should have a drain plug.

Oh, that's correct. Use to get the gas for my mower from there. In addition no baffels in the filler tube so you can sifon (sp) easly.

It does have a drain plug, but I don't think I've got anything big enough to hold all the gas. I stupidly topped off the tank right before I decided to work on the car. I figure a siphon will be a little easier to manage than the drain.

I have a target date now for registration--April 7th. I've got that Thursday and Friday off work, so I can get down to the DMV and get the registration stuff taken care of. Hopefully the weather will be good so I can spend the weekend driving around town!

As I remember I had a peice of 3/8 plastic tube, the kind you get at the hardware for cheep.

Drew, it only holds 7 gallons. Drain half, screw in the plug, and come back for the rest. No nasty aftertaste this way!

I kinda thought the same thing, Jeff...How much could possibly be in a "full" bugeye gastank?!?! Two five gallon "portable" cans and it's DONE. I was guessin' t'wixt 8 and 10, but thought it closer to 8, trying to remember the physical size.

I wound up picking up a cheap siphon from the local auto parts guys. It has a little bulb to squeeze to make the suction. I worked okay, and I didn't have to drink any gasoline.

Of course, now I'm considering not dropping the tank for a while. Trying to stay focused on getting enough stuff working to get the car registered, then I will worry about other stuff. Next time I'll try the drain plug.
