TR4/4A wiper motor

Hi, I would like to remove the wiper motor on my tr4a in order to clean and paint where the previous owner had a brake fluid leak. The wiper motor is a dc3 (rectangle shaped). The wipers are two speed and work fine. My question is can the motor be disconnected from the cable and only the motor removed. I tried to remove the 4 screws on the cover but could not get a wrench or socket on the back screw. Any words of wisdom will be very much appreciated. Thanks grant

Jerry, How do I get the motor dissconnected from the cable and tube that goes up to the wipers? Grant

You have to remove the top plate from the wiper motor, several small hex head screws. Then you will see how the motor and cable connect.

Getting inside that cover is easy after you lossen the bracket from the body. That allows you to disconnect the cable internally. You must also loosen the large nut that retains the cable housing to the motor housing. Getting all back together and having the wipers park correctly is important too. Check the position of the dimple on the round top hat portion of the gearbox cover and make certain you orient it at the same position when you re-install the wiper motor and bracket.

Ok, I managed to remove the wiper motor. I did not understand the dimple part of your message until I had the top off. Now Iam not sure if I have it pointing the right direction. I have it pointing toward the cable end. What will happen if it is pointed wrong when I turn in it on. Is there a way to tell the direction by looking under the top hat. Thanks for your help. Grant

The orientation of the top hat (and dimple) determine the park position when you turn off the wipers. If you have the dimple in the same spot as it was when you took it apart you should be fine. I suppose that looking under the top hat you could also determine the stop position but that's the purpose of the dimple. I believe that you have it correct if set at the cable end. If it was at the motor end the wipers would stop in the middle of the windshield. Having it "wrong" will just stop the wipers at a spot that is not fully at the end of the wiper stroke. If that happens then just adjust it a bit.

How do you disconnect the cable from the link that connects the cable to the link? It looks like the link has to be lifted up to disconnect the pin to the cable. I can't figure it out. Any ideas? Perry
