TR4/4A whitewall tires on spoke wheels TR4A?

We have all seen the TR4A ad's from the day with a tr4A 1965 that has wire wheels and whitewall tires. I think this probably looks ok on a white car, seems to make it more of a classic look. Any coments or have any of you done this to your car? I wonder if any were actually shipped out of a dealer like this.

To each his own. The choice of whitewalls is very personal, some people like them, some don't. Some like them on some cars and not others. Then there's me, personally, I don't like the way they look on any car of any vintage.

really, I don't normally but a Triumph Herald just begs for them as well as some vinatge VW bugs

If you look at the pictures in "Triumphs in America" written by the US marketing guy from triumph I'd say that a good 75% of the cars shown until the TR-6 had whitewalls on them. Seems like it was the "thing" at the time... Heck, even in the early 70's I thought cars looked weird when they had the "skinny" whitewalls turned inside. I thought it made those detroit boats look like cop cars.

Times change, tastes change.

But to answer your question, yes, I believe that many of them came from the dealer with whitewalls. Shots of cars loading onto ships in England didn't seem to have whitewalls.

When I decided I wanted a TR-4A I did a lot of research before buying and found that most publicity shots and ads had cars with whitewalls. Even some of the assembly line pictures showed whitewalls. I like the look, and after intending many car shows and seeing almost nothing but blackwall tires, I thought I'd be different. I've had whitewalls on my TR-4A for almost 10 years. You can see how whitewalls and wires look on my red TR-4A on my website, and some ads also showing whitewalls.
I agree, it's a personal choice.

Thanks. I had noticed the whitewalls on many ad's as well thats why I thought I would ask. I know I would certainly do redlines if I had a TR6

My documents from the British Heritage Trust says my 59 TR3 had white walls on it from the factory. I've always hated them so there is no question for me even though they would be correct.

I have a 65 TR4A my recently received British Heritage certificate states that it was shipped from the UK with Whitewalls, white top and white tonneau. Having just fitted a new top and tonneau in black I'm not sure I want to revert to original, but I am considering refitting whitewalls for nostalgic reasons even though my preference is probably black tires. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif

I've always liked whitewalls, skinny or fat. You don't see them much today which is why I like them even more.
