Got the new fuse box into this '76 MGB, replaced things wire-for-wire with the generic rig I found in there. Didn't try this earlier (and why WOULD anyone?) but now when I turn the parking lamp switch on, the fuel pump runs, the iggy light glows!!! HooBoi. Had to be that way before, nothing from the fuse block was rerouted in any way.

"shhh... be vewwy, vewwy quiet... I'm huntin' stway ewectwons..."

Good luck, Doc! They say that patience is a virtue (but 'they' probably don't have MG's)!

It's sooo much a "search-and-destroy" mission...

Intel will be transmitted as it becomes available.

Hi Doc,
you didn't by any chance install it upside down (4 fuse box)?? the lower 2 fuses are bonded together. I am sure your aware of this, but we all can make a whoops sometimes.
Cheers Ric

That bus is on what are terminals marked 1 and 3, top two. I seem to remember this issue as well and thought the box was mounted "upside down" normally. I put it in "right side up". But I used the wiring diagram to confirm which wires went to the two bussed fuses. I bet you're right!

Well it's stopped raining... and with the box flipped the other way the iggy and pump are ALWAYS hot.

Plan B?

Looks like I'm off on that hunt after all.

You lucky dog. That is actually a feature, not a bug.

I used a Bentley diagram and a test light. That "feature" has been removed.

This thing had dealer added A/C, compressor and condenser are MIA, hoses cut at the bulkhead. The evap unit and controls were still in place.
Those are GONE now, too.

It looked like someone had a vested interest in 3M: More of those freakin' blue ScotchLoks under the dash than I've seen in a long time. Wires cut, tapped or taped all over the place. Running light circuit was tapped RIGHT at the switch with one, ran a wire from there to a WR one at the inertia switch... NO clue what THAT was about. But it fed back to the iggy when lights were on. Goofy stuff.

The brake lights apparently failed so the DPO just ran a red 14GA(!) wire from the old fuse holder across the engine bay to the switch. Turns out the bullet connector at the bulkhead to the rear harness was fubar'd. There was power at the green Lucar at the switch, it was just disconnected and left danglin'. All sorted now. At least the seatbelt "smart box" box was removed with some care. No tellin' how many hands this thing has passed thru in its history.

Retinologist does her final inspection t'morrow AM. She only gets to torment me once a year, usually.

All looks well from inside here so I guess I'm back to "normal".

...or what passes for it in my case.

Doc, seems to me there MIGHT be a spot for you in MG Heaven.. ..or the opposite.. ..depending on your perspective.. ..for all the attention you are giving that poor little abused automobile! Many others might have kicked it to the curb by now....

Yup. I, too have said it for years. The attitude that they're "little toy cars" and given no respect. Even by those who were supposed to know differently. I posted a rant in the "Articles" section to try to explain it.
