Weber Carb meets hood...

This is a problem I have had since I got my 76 Midget a year and a bit ago... the air filter top cover on the weber carb which was installed on the car(DGEV)rubs on the underside of the hood to the point where it has made a dimple on the hood.

The mechanics who work on my car (I know, I'm a wimp, but I know my limitations) tried shaving off a corner of the top plate...didn't help... I tried shaving off more... made it worse.

I have now put a spare filter cover on so I am back where I started.

I know that many Midgets have Weber DGAVs installed and because I have seen no one else whining about it, I have to assume that my problem is not usual.

I cannot see any way I can fix this so I am looking to all of you with your vast experience to offer the magic solution.

Thanks in advance

Mine rubs a very little also. i switched to the rounded style aircleaner, seemed to help. also try checking the up/down hood alignment, perhaps your rubber stops are worn or missing. there should be one on each side.it is a tight clearance

SU (Is that a coincedence or a pun?) I have new rubber stops, and have adjusted the hood alignment to eliminate the rubbing, but now the hood rests about 3/8" above the fenders on each side at the front.... I am contemplating taking off the carb and intake manifold and having the carb mounting plate on the manifold ground off by as much as can safely be done. This will lower the whole carb by whatever that amount is.... good idea?...BAD idea????

Thanks

Well the truth be known i have had the name much longer than i have had my LBC's. It wasnt till i joined this Forum(the Best Forum on the Planet) that some one used the initials. it never even dawned on me till that day, but i think its kinda cool..

I wouldnt think you would have to deck the manifold, dont see where it would hurt anything if you did. perhaps you engine isnt fully seated on the mounts, are they new? there are pins to align the intake manifold, perhaps they were miss drilled, or are not there. I take you dont think you hood is tweeked or slightly warped. also there should be some shims between the hood and the hinges. perhaps reshimming there may help....just some suggestions. Keep us posted
