Using Midget Suspension parts on Nash Metropolitan

I was looking in the Victoria British Catalog at the lower control arm for an MG Midget. The lower control arm set up looks identical to the later Nash Metropolitan configuration. The Nash uses identical components for the lower and upper arms with respect to trunnion pins, trunnion pin locks, bushings, cork grease reatiners etc.. I am convinced that if I bought 4 sets of components for an MG Midget lower control arm I would have what I need to do my Metropolitan front end.

Do you have any knowledge as to the compatability of the above-mentioned parts? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PeterC,

I greatly appreciate that information. Might you know the outside diameter, inside diameter and length of the lower control arm Bushings?

The trunion pin, locks, and cork are the same for both cars.

I will take that as a NO. I wanted to see if the MG bushings fit the Metropolitan control arms. I will seek this information elsewhere.

If anyone would know that, Peter Caldwell of World Wide Auto Parts would be one of them! The gentleman is well known for his expertise in rebuilding suspension parts for these vehicles. JMHO. PJ

I agree that Peter would be one of many experts to ask. And he has already weighed in with the above post. "Peter C" is Peter Caldwell from the looks of it.

You mean the trunion pin? Or the inner A-frame bushings on a Midget? Mets and Midgets are different. Midgets use a stamped steel lower A-frame . BUT, the trunion pin, the threaded thing that has 2 diameters, are the same for both cars, except the Met has twice as many.

Oh, and I visit here generally during business hours, so unless I get a PM or direct email, I don't get to see the question.

I mean the inner A frame bushings on the lower control arm which appears to be identical to that of the Midget. I went ahead and ordered the trunnion pins, locks and cork seals in quantity to do all 4 control arms as the components for the upper and lower control arms are all the same on a Met. I went ahead and ordered 16 lower inner bushings as I am confident they will also fit. I will let you know what the outcome is once the package arrives. Thanks again for your assistance.

Phase #2:
Does anyone know a NAPA part numbers for the inner and outer wheel bearings and the corresponding seals for a Midget, I believe there are two different sizes depending on the model of the Midget. I would like this so I could take my bearings to the NAPA store and possible see if they match the Midget hearings.

Thanks for any assistance anyone could provide.

And if I'm not mistaken, a Triumph gearbox in the Nash Metropolitan, too.

A friend recently did a frame-off resto of a Nash Metro to look just like the "Nancy Drew" car.

Really cool car, that! :yesnod:

Everything that I know about the Metro is that the transmission is a stock MGA transmission with a special side cover that locks-out first gear so that you have "full syncro 3-speed transmission" (selling point). To compensate for the taller "low" gear they put a ridiculous 4.55 (?) diff in it (killed the freeway crusing!!).
Friends of mine with Metros would take off the side plate, grind off the "lockout boss" and have a 4-speed again.
