TR6 TR6 Idle Speed

Hello to all, first time post!
I just replaced the diaphram in the PVC valve. My idle speed which was 13-1400 dropped to about 1000, which I like very much. Was the drop in idle speed directly linked to the new diaphram or just a quirky coincidence. I've got the dual down draft webers on the car. I've only had the car about 2 months and am just getting to know it. This is a great forum!

Sounds as if the old PCV valve may have had some schmaze holding it open (schmaze is an acceptable tech term, BTW). :wink:

You should be able to get the idle down to "tickover"... Somewhere around 700~800 RPM with the idle stop screws now.

Sounds like you eliminated a "vacuum leak".

In other words, "probably". Your old PCV diaphragm was leaking and allowing excess air into the intake.

May be time to touch up the idle mixture as well.

Thanks for all the responses! I imagine that was one of the easiest fixes I'll ever have! Until I get to know those carbs better I think I'll leave them as is for next hundred miles or so. When I originally owned the car (see new member forum)it had the Z/S carbs but were replaced when my brother restored it. Can't complain about the performance, they do provide a nice punch. He's got the old carbs in storage and said he'd send them to me.
My next project is to get the horns working. During the restoration the wire up the steering column some how dissapeared. Will send some pictures soon.
