Gents,

this year I want to open/close the drain and filler plugs of gearbox and rear axle with a correct tool. I asked the local subsidiary of Moss in Gemany and Limora (a German parts supplier) but they do no have a tool for that. Does nobody know what the exact diameter of the plugs is (must be 7/26 inch if my measurement is correct) and where to obtain a tool for that.

I made my own. Cut a short piece of 7/16" square bar (found at a local hardware store) and a 7/16" 8-point socket.

Many of us just use a 3/8" socket wrench (without a socket), works fine.

Gents, thank you for the comments. Just on thing: is it a 7/26 or a 3/8 diameter for the tool? Or a 7/16 square?

Thank you very much. I will try to get a 7/16 square bar in Germany at my local store or make one myself.

I use this tool. I have had it for about twenty-five years and it is perfect for the job.

Have dremel with a grinding wheel ready and grind two sides of the tool-to-be to make the perfect fit.

I have a largish hex Alan Key and it has a square section at the small end which I have found to fit well for both gear box
and back axle.

OMG that's like .004" smaller! It'll strip for sure unless you jam a strand or two of hair in there with it.

If you go to a Renault Dealer or an auto parts supplier in Germany you can buy a wrench / socket for the drain plug of oil sumps for older Renaults (from the 70's / 80's) that fits there. I used the wrench I had lying around from my Grandpa old Renault 7 and fitted like a glove in there
