Side draft Weber and smell of gasoline?

A question for those of you who have experience with a DCOE side draft Weber:

When I return home from driving my Bugeye and park it in the garage, there's a strong gasoline odor that lingers for a couple of hours. I've confirmed that there are no fuel leaks - checked all the lines, checked the fuel pump, etc. So I'm wondering - is this a normal problem with DCOE's? I.e., is there some sort of evaporation from the carb that could be causing this?

Dan, I have a friend who just did a major engine rebuild on his MGA (MGB engine. It was done by APT and included the aluminum crossflow head which takes dual Webers. He experienced the same problem and we tried everything to correct it including a fuel pressure regulator and even having Mike Pierce work on tuning and trying to correct the issue. Bottom line, it's pretty normal for them to be like that to some extent. There can be many causes, but is a float bowl vent that can allow some fuel to condense in the throat. Depending in the angle of the carb, it can build up and drip a little.

Thanks! At least now I know that it's to be expected. If you ever find a way to correct it, please let me know.

P.S. I'm still loving the sound of that exhaust system you sold me. It's sufficiently quiet that I can easily hear the 40DCOE ram pipes making their "throaty" noise.

Happy to hear you were pleased with it. It is nice to be able to hear the intake. I used to love that sound on the Mopars and Chevy's I drove as a teenager.
