Seriously...who would NOT buy a new Jaguar???

Just curious why some of you would NOT buy a Jaguar today if you had the funds??

I am facing just that conundrum. Sometime next year I will be buying 70th bday present. Right now Ftype coupe versus a Subaru BRZ if it has the StI motor by then. Seems I get with Subaru, more reliability, lighter, nimbler car, more fun on freeway on/off ramps, arguably better looking, or at worst equal looking. Ftype numbers and BRZ with the Sti engine should be about same, but BRZ from all road tests should have much better driver feedback/feel. Currently have '06 Sti, 33,000 mi and it is quite a car, just glued to pavement. Also maybe thinking of new NSX acura if they can get it to stop catching fire, although size weight argument against it as well. No set date for purchase so can keep obsessing and maybe BMW will once again make an M version of Z4.

Wow.....sounds like you do have some decisions to make, but keep doing your homework. I can say after driving both the 2014 F-Type Roadster and the 2015 F-Type R Coupe, they are absolute JOY to drive......the acceleration/handling and smooth ride was the best I've driven in a long time. Have you driven one of the F-Type's yet?? (BTW.....I have not driven the FRS or the BRZ either, but I's like too)

Thanks for thoughtful response Joe. Nope have not driven Ftype yet, want to wait until ready to pull trigger, especially since by mid '15 new choices may have been offered. Forgot to mention I have had '67 Etype roadster for 29 years so Ftype would make nice bookend as last high-performance car I will ever own. What I have read, coupe is much better driver than roadster.

WOW, thanks Joe important piece of the puzzle. Daily driver around beach town area where I live is a Caterham 7 built myself in '95. In terms of playing hero racing driver at under 60 mph and getting to use 5000 revs through gears, double clutching down,aiming for apex, placing wheel with precision,controlling oversteer on corner exit with throttle, on way to grocery store, great "toy."

Thanks......manual was just the way to go IMO but some may not like it and see it as a move in the wrong direction (back), at least they are going to offer it.

I wouldn't. Of course, that applies to everything, not just Jags.
No power steering, no EFI or computers, no paddle shift (or automatics), must have wing vents, no key fobs, remote locks, none of that stuff to fail. No power windows.
I drive my 64 almost every day. I cannot imagine the maintenance required over the next 50 years to try to keep one of the new POS cars running. Break a headlamp lens on a 10-year-old car and you're on the hook to the junkyard, almost.
No AC to leak, need compressors, seals...recharging.....need to service the air filter? Change the oil in it.

Why would I buy a 'modern' car that I cannot work on but will decrease (dramatically) in value every year that I own it when I can drive a classic that I can work on and will increase in value every year?

Not for every one but works for me.

There ya go, George! Depreciate at least 10% when you drive it off the lot, maintenance you get to pay for will kill you.
Looking at the options, no option for manual choke, wing vents, real pushbutton start (with an actual key), they all got that silly key fob BS, BEEP-BEEP. Can't choose "no computers". Gotta have those vinyl 5MPH Federal bumpers. Air bags...where do you check to delete them? Wonder how much your new car will be worth when it's 10 years old and the air bags have gone off? And the covers are now duct tape?
Look at the current air bag recall...they don't know what to do, as the models covered are long since out of production..there are no parts for them. Oh, what, they'll make black ones? For your biscuit interior?
I have no intention of buying any new car.
Besides, if you do, Top Gear will have a series on it....

You may be preaching to the wrong congregation, I bought a new car shortly after I graduated from college, since then for my daily drivers I have bought low mileage, well cared for cars and driven them for years.

Sure its an appealing car, but even if I were inclined to buy a new car, it would not be a high end luxury or sports car, I just don't have the kind of money you throw away on those cars, 10 year old Audis, BMWs, and Mercedes sell for the same money as a used Honda of similar years and miles, generally speaking Jags are even worse, expensive going in and big hit going out.

Even if resale was not an issue, if I were to spend that kind of money on a car I would get a classic Jag or similar, not a new one, cause that is the kind of car I really like, to me the picture above says it all, no comparison at all between the old car and the new in appeal to my eyes anyway.

I'll buy an F-Type coupe when I retire from the airline in 9 years. I'll probably buy a 2017 car depending on how the model progresses. Depreciated high end cars a generally how I buy and I've come off pretty well. Not many are thrashed and there are a good selection of well maintained.

Love the looks of the new "F" and the sound. Having a XK8 that doesn't make any sound unless you make it unbearable on a trip is a downer. The thrill of chasing gremlins in the electrical system gives you lots to do in your retirement. They even show up when you hid the car in a garage and hid in little black boxes to flatten the battery.

Yes it's a pain, but will turn heads where ever you go. They never did a stick shift for the public, sorry to say.

Great points and I agree, I'm the type who is more inclined to buy a 3 yr old sports car and let someone else take the hit.......and maybe they have the bug ran out of it!

Well keeping it real, I'm a Ford Mustang guy. I currently own two and one is my son's who's turning 16 this month Mine is a 1990 LX with the 5.0 liter Supercharged V8 and yes, I'd be glad to post a pic or two of it
