TR2/3/3A Repair ripped tonneau cover at a Lift-a-Dot?

Anyone have a DIY method of repairing the area around a Lift a Dot button where the button has torn away from the tonneau with only about 1/4 of the material still holding on to the button? inside of going to an upholstery shop I was wondering if it would be possible to fasten some material under the button to secure it? Any ideas?

That's probably what I'd try -- backing it with a piece of vinyl using contact cement and mounting the LTD through both. You might even be able to sneak one edge under the edging of the tonneau and sew it in place using the existing holes.

I would do the same.

If you want to do this yourself and add stitches to secure the patch, Google "Speedy Stitcher". That is a very handy sewing awl for making industrial type lock-stitches. A neatly cut oval patch held in place with contact cement and a ring of lock-stitches would be very secure. The Speedy Stitcher comes with flax cord. For a convertible top I would visit JoAnnes Fabrics or similar and look for some heavy weight polyester thread (button thread) in a color that matches the top. Polyester will last longer in the elements.
