Removing brass bushings from spindle

The last time I removed the brass bushings from spindle in preparation for getting major suspension kit installation they seemed to simply fall out. Having an issue with top bushing. Tried heat and long screwdriver and hammer and that baby is in there tight. Before I break something what's the secret to getting top bushing and dust tube / spring out? Tips technique?

Peter C this set will be coming your way for reaming. Clean everything up and partially assemble or leave parts and pieces in the box. What is your preference?

So any tricks on removing kingpins bushings. The brass bushings should just slide out should they not?

Did you remove the grease zerk?

No not yet. Let me pull that and see if it comes apart. Trevor these came from you so you know how greasy the spindles were. I have been working to degrease and clean up a little before I send off to get reamed. A case of no RTFM on my part.

Yes they were still greasy, and I had scraped the bulk of the grease off of them. On the car I'm working on at the moment, the right side had grease/dirt about an inch thick and the left said was dry,dusty, and rusty. If only these cars could talk.

You could modify a hack saw blade to cut thru them. Just be careful not to cut too deep. Once nearly cut thru they ought to press out pretty easily. The ones I have encountered were a very tight press fit.
With enough soaking in solvent the grease shields should loosen up sot hey can be removed.I haven't had too much trouble with them.

Thanks, have not been back out to the garage. On House Cleanup Duty or the better half. Likely Christmas Eve AM before I can get back out there. I did get lots of stuff finally cleaned up and painted this weekend while weather in the 50-60's in Dayton. Temps going down but I didn't get anything done paint wise for 3 weeks as too darn cold in the garage.

Please, if you're going to send them off, stop trying to remove the bushings. We have tools and jigs, and some pretty sophisticated de-greasing machines.
