rattling doors on a BJ8

Hello again all,
Got another question - on the BJ8 I just purchased, the
doors will shut but difficult to get a good latch. Know that sounds simple but before I go and start messing around
with the door latches, any secrets to getting a good solid
latch where I don't have to slam the doors ?

Also, lot of rattles but attribute that to loose door glass
so will have to get into the guts to replace bits and pieces. I assume that the door panels have clips that you
very carefully pry off ?

Thanks for the help - don't want to ruin good door panels.

Hi There are several possibilities here. 1] the latch on the shut face panel is too far in and needs to be moved out a bit. 2] It is also possible that the wrong size door seal is installed which will require that the door be slammed. And 3] The little hooked latch on the door which is part of the latch has worn such that it rotates outboard on its shaft. Consequently the door must be slammed to get it to latch.

Yes the door panels are held with clips a forked tool is the best thing to use so that panel damage does not occur.

Yes the windows will rattle if the tracks and Glides have not been maintained.-------Fwiw---Keoke-- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cowboy.gif

You might consider purchasing panel removal tools before you start prying. They work a lot better than a flat bladed screwdriver. The tools are available in auto parts stores and are not as expensive and buying a new panel.

Thanks Keoke ! Got the panels off relatively easy and
no damage. Will be replacing the inner and outer weather
stripping on the windows and the small pieces that hold
the glass in place. Not sure exactly which but have seen
them in the Moss catalog.

Will look into that door recommendation and they actually shut easier with the door panel off so the idea about the
seals might have something to do with it.

Regards,
Mike
