Radio Blanking Plate

Tom, I was just having a little fun. I work with nothing but metric dimensions and European drawings all week long. I can read the drawings either way.
By the way, I didn't see any radius specified for the corners. Or, maybe I missed it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

That's cool Jeff, I was only returningthe favor, if you have a look in one of the corners you'll see it's 15mm (R15)
which in hindsight could be a little tighter than that but works ok at that size.

BTW it looks like I will be being transferred to Brazil this year for a while (up to 2 years which means my old girls go into deep hibernation for a while /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif) and I gather they use metric for plastic piping and fractional imperial for steel piping (which is going to prove interesting I'm sure....)

regards

Tom, I guess I just didn't look far enough. R15 it shall be! For some reason, I hate dealing with pdf files.
Mixed dimensions! I've dealt with that before, and it's frustrating, to say the least. Can you imagine the GD&T on those drawings? Yuk. R15, plus or minus 1/32."
Perhaps you can at least find an interesting vehicle in Brazil. I know I saw a lot of oddball stuff in SA.

btw Steve what you doin' with a right hook man? that's a bit outta it's place ain't it?

[/ QUOTE ]

What does "right hook" mean? Does that mean right hand drive? Everyone knows that all proper British cars have the wheel on the "right" side! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif In fact, three of my five MGs are RHD including my daily driver. I actually prefer it. Then again I can be a bit odd about such things.

Sorry Steve

just me being a facetious

yup right hook is RHD
Neat to see but I must admit I was a little surprised to see that RHD cars are (apparently) street legal in Nth America let alone available

carry on!!

They are rare over here for obvious reasons. But they are perfectly legal. In fact, the McLaren F1 has the wheel in the center!

The laws here are very lenient on moidfied cars. We have people home-building outrageous off road trucks that aren't safe to stand near, let alone drive on a public road. Cars with grass growing on the roof or plaster sculptures attached to them. All kinds of crazy stuff that is not safe in any way! Modified safety components such as brakes and suspension are not inspected either. So simply having the steering wheel on the right side of the car is most definitely not a concern for anyone! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Anyway I've thought about getting one of the MG plates and shaving it off to fit in place of the removable plate for show & shines. Might be kind of cool looking. Anyone tried this?

Bret
I know: old thread, but I'm thinking about doing the same thing and I wonder if anyone else has been successful at this. It seems to me that every removable faceplate radio has a spring-loaded plunger in the body of the stereo that is depressed when the faceplate is installed. Is this just a spring to apply pressure against the plate, or is it a switch? If it's a switch, I would assume that this activates circuits in the radio, right? So to do this properly, wouldn't you need a thicker face plate with a cavity for the switch to go into?
