Not at all water tight...

I got caught in a down poor last night and discovered that my top kept a little drier than I would be without it. The top has the added advantage of completely fogging the interior of the car. Next time I think I will just pull the floor plugs and leave the top down.

One thing perplexes me, my legs were getting drenched from by water dripping from under the dash. Any thoughts on where that water might be coming from and how to stop it?

I think there are areas where air and water can come through the pedal box. Either the gasket for box or around the arms for the pedals.

Also check your wiper post gaskets, you can loosen them and push in some sealant.

I don't think the tops on these cars kept everything dry even when the cars were new. A friend of mine had a brand-new Midget back in the seventies, top always leaked a little bit. Not bad, but it would get on your nerves on a longish ride in the rain.

I wouldn't be too alarmed if the top leaks a little.

In a storm in Pittsburgh I was taking a friend to the airport, in the Elan +2.

He asked me if I knew why the coupes weren't introduced until two years after the dropheads... When I said I didn't he explained: "It took R&D two more years to get the coupes to LEAK properly."

Properly installed windsheld, top, side curtins and rubber firewall hole plugs a Bugeye will not leak.

I drove one for over 20 years in uniform back and forth to work and never ever had a problem.

I have found that if I seal both the wipers (clear silicon on the gaskets) and the squirters (ditto)that the mysterious leaks under the dash virtually disappear!

The tops leaks do not bother me too much. Just the under dash leaks. I will give your suggestions a try Bill and Rick.

What I said was I never had a problem. Car never failed to start and take me to work or home dry in the wet, warm in the cold, etc, etc.

It was about a 20 min run each way over the years. Never ever a prob. except one time, ran out of gas. duh

So, order some new washer and wiper gaskets from Moss and be done with it.

On another forum, a couple of people noted the bolts for the fender letting water in and getting the back of the interior panels wet.
