Since some talk has come up on new tires, I purchase a set of sumotumo tires 205-65-15, which will be here end of the week. and I was wondering about tire pressures, I did a search and I know the original pressures and also know thats too low, I checked my current goodrich tires pressures and front was 20 and rear was 24, I ended up pumping them up to 34, and after a ride going around a corner at somewhat a sprited drive the rear came loose, not sure it there was a slick spot on the road, but does a higher air pressuer tend to make the rear end break loose easier? going to 26 front and 28 rear next. the other tires are goodrich 205-70-15 with probably less than 8,000 miles, ( I just dont like them)but 4 years old, and they will need a new home to FYI

Too much pressure will certainly make it break away easier. Plus it tends to be very abrupt, whereas with not enough pressure the sidewall tends to lay over and give you warning that something bad is about to happen.

But there should be a "sweet spot" somewhere in between that works significantly better than the factory pressure.

Hondo - I used 32 all the way around on the rally and the rear end was planted, but I'm also running meaningful negative camber. Low 20's seems low to me.

Hondo, running Yoko Avid TRZ 205/60/16 and run 28 in the front and 30 in the rear after experimenting a little.

Cheers,

The pressures of 28F & 30R is where my 205/60/16 Falkens are happy.

I actually ran the same in my Goodyear 205/70/15's on the stock wheels.

I was thinking of 28 in the rear and 30 in the front, it seems to steer easier with more pressure in the front tires

thanks

Ordinarily, higher pressure in the front can contribute to oversteer. Just what I've read.

Which wouldn't necessarily be a Bad Thing, if your car was currently exhibiting too much understeer.

well my new tires arrived today, and what a PITA to put them on. only took me 3 hours to get the old tires off and the new ones on, the hardest part was breaking the bead on the old tires, Now I just have to take them to a tire shop and have them balanced

I love to watch the guys try to figure how to do it with the tires and wheels right side up, rather than upside down.
