I have just purchased a 1965 4.2L E-Type (FHC) and I had a couple of questions I was hoping to get some help on. As it is almost time to put the car away for the winter I wanted to change the engine oil and was wondering what oil people are using? Also, what are the best jacking points for the car? Any information would be appreciated. Thank you,
Reid

I don't know anything about storage oils but I can tell you that the jacking points that Jag provided can lead to serious problems. If the stands are a little bit off they will seriously deform the surrounding sheet metal. It's better to use the suspension's lower arms where they attach to the frame.

OK, jacking an e type is a wee bit scary. Make a wooden block (or buy a premade one) that fits SNUGLY into the front frame rail between where the lower front arms attach. Place the stands under the front arms (this is tough too, as the arms hang at a sharp angle.) Best to place them about where the lower shock mount is. NEVER EVER jack it directly by any of the front frame members. Do not jack under the radiator either... In the rear, depending on how the exhaust is fitted, jack under the diff, and jackstands under the front mounts to the trailing arms where they mount to the body.

Thanks guys. Jesse, I just want to clarify; I haven't even been under the car yet as it is new to me (going off pictures in manual). The 'front frame rail' meaning the cross-member that runs across the car (not lengthwise) and that the lower wishbones attach to? And by 'front arms' you mean the wishbones, so the jacks are actually touching the wishbones where the shock attaches?

Yes, runs across the front of the car right in front of the engine. Has the radiator fan mounted to the top section.

Yes, the front wishbones are the lower arms. Jack STANDS placed about where the shock bolt passes through. Not uncommon to have to straighten out the edges of the crossmember due to prior owners jacking directly on it. When you look you will see what I mean. Careful applications of vise grips to bend the edges close to straight, then hammer and dolley if you want perfection. Then fit a wooden block to protect it in the future.
